Nose: Gosh, there’s so much going on! It’s slightly umami, slightly leathery, and slightly eucalyptusy. It opens with prunes, mint, and cocoa powder. Some earthiness creeps in over time, reminiscent of dried tobacco leaves. A few drops of water give a floral touch to the nose, along with vanilla sponge cake, orange candy, and bay leaves.
Palate: It’s sweet and malty on arrival, with a mouth-coating texture. Honey, dried dates, Umeshu-soaked plum, and hazelnut milk chocolate. There’re also some tropical fruit notes. With water, it gets creamier and sweeter, with notes of mint and caramel-dipped apple.
Finish: The finish is long and warm, leaving the tongue with mild oakiness and spices. That minty sensation lingers till the very end. It almost feels like eating a piece of After Eight, minus the sugariness.
Final Thought: I’ve heard that the 2022 Edition is phenomenal. While I can’t compare it with the 2022 Edition, this release is not half bad! It demonstrates discernible Sherry influences without being a Sherry bomb. It has interesting developments over time, and the flavors are well-integrated. The return (deliciousness) on investment is simply incredible!
Girl with Cask Strength Score: 90/100.
