Nose: Like walking into a blooming orchard on a warm spring day. Sweet osmanthus, jasmine, white pear, peach, acacia honey, and vanilla icing. The aroma is reminiscent of floral tea, soft and delicate. Time reveals a soft caffè mocha note.
Palate: Pretty consistent with the nose, but simpler. Honey, peach tea, pear stew, peppery spice, and some black tea bitterness. The palate collapses with just a drop of water.
Finish: The finish is short, borderline effervescent. All I get is a mild tongue burn with oaky bitterness.
Final Thought: I thought the three-month sea maturation would give this whisky a whiff of oceanic characteristics. Experts disagree on the effect of sea maturation. In this case, my nose tells me no. Perhaps, as they market it, the waves, the temperature, and the air pressure on the sea did influence the interaction between wood and liquid (Can someone explain to this former English major why air pressure varies on the sea?). But the ocean definitely didn’t impart any flavors. Anyways, this is a fairly straightforward whisky. It’s not aversive. But I don’t see myself ordering it at a bar.
