Nose: It starts off with a delicate combination of fruity and floral aromas, supported by a gentle smoke in the background. Honey, vanilla, apricot, apple, and fresh cut chrysanthemums. With time, the smell takes on a herbal character, with notes of candied ginger, celery, and seaweed chips.
Palate: Crisp and sweet. The fruity note carries on to the palate — honey, apple, tangy pineapple, and chocolate-covered orange. The peat is even fainter on the palate. To be fair, this bottle has been open for quite some time.
Finish: A short-to-medium finish, with tangy citrus and some menthol tingling.
Final Thought: It’s an approachable single malt whisky. The notes are harmoniously integrated. Nothing is offensive. That being said, the flavors are a bit of a touch-and-go, like a pleasant fling whom you never get to know more. I couldn’t help but wonder whether a Yoichi with age statement would give me the depth of flavor I was looking for.
Girl with Cask Strength Score: 84/100.
